How it is calculated

Result = (close − open) × lots × contract size for a buy, and (open − close) × lots × contract size for a sell. Pips = price difference ÷ pip size. One lot is one hundred thousand units. Spread, commission and swap are not included.

+0.0050 ÷ 0.0001 = +50.0 pips+0.0050 × 0.50 × 100,000 = +250.00

What to do next

A gain on paper is not a gain until the position is closed.

Try the same trade in the other direction: the result flips sign, and so does the risk you took.

This calculator shows the profit or loss of a trade from the price change and your position size. It helps you check the numbers before you trade.

What each input means

The entry price is the price when you open the trade. The exit price is the price when you close it. You can find both on the order ticket or in your trade history. The position size is the amount you trade. It may be shown in lots or units. Your platform shows this on the order screen.

The direction tells the calculator if you are buying or selling. Choose buy if you gain when the price rises. Choose sell if you gain when the price falls. The price change is the difference between exit and entry. The calculator uses these inputs to show the result.

How to read the result

The result is an estimate of profit or loss before costs. A positive number means a gain. A negative number means a loss. It does not include spreads, commissions, or swap fees. Your actual result will be lower after these costs.

The result does not account for gaps in the market. Prices can jump between your entry and exit. It also does not show how prices change over time. Use it as a guide, not as a promise of what you will get. Risk is always present in trading.

A common mistake

A common mistake is to forget costs like spread and commission. The calculator shows a clean number, but your real profit will be less.
